1. Brief Introduction

Medical Microbiology mainly studies the morphology, structure, metabolic activity, heredity and variation, pathogenic mechanism, body's anti infection immune, laboratory diagnosis and specific prevention of pathogenic microorganism related with human diseases. Purpose of learning medical microbiology is to understand the biological characteristics and pathogenicity of pathogenic microorganisms; knowing about body's immune function on pathogenic microorganisms, the relationship between infection and immunity and the rules; knowing about laboratory diagnostic methods and preventive principles of infectious diseases. 

Medical microbiology is a basic medical discipline, mainly focuses on medical related biological traits, infectious pathogenic mechanism, basic theories of immunology, diagnostic techniques, and specific preventive measures of pathogenic microorganisms, in order to control and eliminate infectious disease and microbial related immune diseases so as to guarantee human health. 

2. Content

Bacteria: mainly describes the morphology, structure, growth, reproduction, variation, pathogenicity and other biological characteristics of bacteria, as well as the impact of physical, chemical and biological factors on bacteria.

Immunology Foundation: mainly clarify general rules of interaction of pathogenic microbes and host, specific prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious disease;  and describes relevant theories of non infectious immune.

Bacteria Theory: describes the biological characteristics, pathogenicity and immunity, microbiological examination and specific control.of various pathogenic bacteria with medical importance. 

Other Microorganisms: respectively recites the biological characteristics, pathogenicity and immune, microbiology examination method and prevention principles of medical related virus, chlamydia, Rickettsia, mycoplasma, helicoid, actinomycetes and fungi. 

Learning purpose of medical microbiology is to understand the biological characteristics and pathogenicity of pathogenic microorganisms; to know about the body's immune function of pathogenic microorganisms, the relationship between infection and immunity, to master diagnosis approaches, prevention and basic principles of treatment of infectious diseases and other diseases related with microorganism, to be able to lay the foundation for the future study of basic medicine and clinical medicine by using the basic theory of medical microbiology, basic knowledge and basic skills. 

3. Learning Objectives

(1). Pathogenic microorganisms have been successively found, resulting in new infectious disease; 

(2). The original epidemic pathogens come back into fashion due to variation, drug resistance and other reasons, leading to the reproduction of infectious diseases; 

(3). So far, there are still some pathogen of a number of infectious diseases which have not been found; 

(4) The pathogenesis and immune mechanism of some pathogens remain to be elucidated; 

(5) Many diseases are still lack of effective prevention and treatment measures.

(1). to strengthen the study of infectious diseases and infectious disease pathogens, providing pathogenic basis for timely diagnosis and treatment of diseases 

(2). to further study the biological characteristics and pathogenic mechanism of pathogenic microorganisms, and provide a theoretical basis for the development of new drugs 

(3). to develop new vaccines with a good immunogenicity and minor side effects 

(4). to develop a specific, sensitive, simple and rapid diagnosis method and technology of microbiology.
