Brief Introduction
Beijing Union University, (BUU), established upon the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in 1985, is a comprehensive municipal university of Beijing. Beijing Union University aims to strengthen the undergraduate programs, optimize the vocational higher education, boost the postgraduate studies, promote the internationalized education, and expand the continuing education based on the present education scale. Beijing Union University originated from over 30 branch campuses attached to such university like Peking University and Tsinghua University among others. 1. History
Beijing Union University, established upon the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in 1985, is a comprehensive municipal university of Beijing. One of the largest universities in the capital of China, Beijing Union University originated from over 30 branch campuses attached to such universities as Peking University and Tsinghua University. Beijing Union University’s colleges are scattered on 13 campuses in six urban districts in Beijing. On the main campus of Xiaoying is College of International Education, which is situated to the east of National Olympic Sports Center and enjoys easy access to transportation. Currently, Beijing Union University delivers 61 specialties for undergraduates involving 10 disciplines in economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, arts and medicine. Over 30 years of evolution and development, it has undergone changes of merger, branch-out, establishment, revocation, and integration. Beijing Union University boasts nearly 1,800 full-time teachers, and around 30,000 registered students including over 1,000 international students, and a certain number of postgraduate students.

Beijing Union University (BUU) delivers 61 specialties for undergraduates involving 10 disciplines in economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, arts and medicine. Over 30 years of evolution and development, it has undergone changes of merger, branch-out, establishment, revocation, and integration. Today, Beijing Union University consists of 14 colleges: College of Applied Arts and Science, Teachers’ College, Business College, College of Biochemical Engineering, Tourism College, College of Continuing Education, College of Information Technology, College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Automation College, Management College, College of Special Education, Advertising College, College of Applied Science and Technology and College of International Education.
3. Academic facilities and Scientific research
Beijing Union University (BUU) is build on the gross floor area of around 600,000 square meters, the university library is among the biggest in the city with collection of more than 2.4 million volumes and more electronically book access. In terms of research, Beijing Union University has 4 research institutes, 4 key laboratories.
4. Beijing Union University Achievement
In the past five years, Beijing Union University (BUU) has undertaken 10 research projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China, five projects by National Social Science Foundation of China, 15 projects by the Ministry of Education, 9 projects by Beijing Natural Science Foundation, and 40 projects by Beijing Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science. In addition, among the publications are 700 academic books, and 6981 academic papers, of which 831 have been included in the major international indexing systems. Furthermore, 310 patents including 177 inventions have been granted to scholars of BUU. The university have successful involved and got awards in research of Present Condition and Counterplan of Underground Relics protecting in Beijing. Foreign experts and teachers have been recruited to improve the English proficiency of teachers and students, to share teaching methodology and to create an international atmosphere.
5. Communication and international cooperation
The Division of International Exchange & Cooperation of Beijing Union University is responsible for all the international liaison and exchange programs between Beijing Union University and her international counterparts. Beijing Union University has always paid great attention to international exchanges and cooperation and has established links with 80 universities and institutions from 30 different countries and regions. Each year, up to 400 staff attends various training programs and academic activities abroad in countries such as the UK, the US, Germany, etc. The university receives visits of about 30 groups from 20 different countries every year. An annual overseas training project has been set up to broaden the horizon of staff. BUU has actively taken part in and hosted a wide range of international conferences to share teaching ideology and management expertise with higher education institutions from other countries. Conferences such as League of University Globalization, China-Korea-America International Symposium, Beijing Studies Symponium and Beijing International Forum of Education for Special Needs have drawn wide attention internationally.
