Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) is a key university under the administration of the Beijing municipal government. 1. History

Beijing University of Technology was founded in 1960. It is a key university under the administration of the Beijing municipal government, offering multidisciplinary programs in such fields as science, engineering, economics, management, liberal arts and etc. In 1981, BJUT was among the first batch of universities to offer master's degree programs authorized by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and in 1985 BJUT was further authorized to offer doctorate degree programs as well. In December 1996 BJUT was finally included in “Project 211”, joining the rank of 100 top universities in the 21st century.

BJUT ranks among the top 30 universities at home, the 118th in the Asian university ranking of 2014, with its disciplines of materials, engineering and chemistry being top 1% of the ESI international ranking. BJUT has become an important base of talent cultivation for Beijing Municipality, a vital force for regional technological innovation, a crucial think tank for city construction and development and a significant showcase for international exchange and cooperation.

2. Discipline and Programs

Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) consists of 33 colleges and institutes. BJUT currently covers more than 9 disciplines fields of engineering, science, economics, management, literature, laws, philosophy, education, art etc., having 3 national key disciplines and 39 key disciplines in Beijing. It has 18 mobile postdoctoral centers and 10 professional degree programs from ME, MBA, architecture, applied statistics, MEM, social work, MPA, MFA, education, to MUP. It covers 19 master’s degree programs in engineering field and offers 57 bachelor’s degree programs. 3. Academic Facilities and Scientific Research

Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) has 1 state-level industry-study-research center, 1 international cooperation center, 33 key labs/engineering technology research centers of state/province-level, 1 strategy research cultivation base of Ministry of Education, 6 international technology cooperation centers of Beijing, 3 Beijing-based Philosophy and Sociology Bases, 3 Key Industrial Laboratories. Currently it also has 1 school of architectural prospecting and design, and a national college science park.

As the only Beijing regional university which is listed as one of the 100 universities for key construction for the 21st century, BJUT sticks to the strategy of “building up its core inner strength through scientific and technological innovation”. 5. Communication and International Cooperation

Beijing University of Technology has established formal collaborative relationships with more than 100 universities, academic institutions and enterprises in the world, including one joint educational institution---Beijing-Dublin International College and two other joint educational degree programs. Beijing-Dublin International College has been granted a national high-level model for joint educational institution.

Each year, BJUT organizes more than 10 international conferences, inviting more than 200 foreign experts and scholars to give lectures, teach or carry out joint research on campus.

There are more than 500 staff members paying long-term or short-term visits to about 60 partner universities for academic and joint research purposes on a yearly basis, more than 400 students go to study overseas as well. BJUT also enjoys a rapid development of the educational programs for international students. Every year, there are more than 1,000 international students coming to BJUT, of whom over 200 are coming for their degrees.
