International Education College of Dalian Medical University (DMU) was established in 1985 to offer programs of professional development and language training. In 2004, the university established MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) in the English medium and initiated to recruit educated international students; this launched an evolutionary prospect in Dalian Medical University's system expansion to international education.
The international education of Dalian Medical University has experienced robust expansion in the past ten years. Now DMU is a Model University nationwide in international education. Currently, there are 1,090 international degree students on campus, 12.5% of which are graduate students. With international students coming from one hundred different countries and areas of five continents, the proportion of students from any single country is lower than 13%. Moreover, of the universities in Northeast China and even those countrywide, Dalian Medical University ranks top in both international student scale and number of nations.
Over the past years, international education has come to be one of the most distinguished features of Dalian Medical University. To fulfill the needs of different students, the university has developed a multi-layer international education system with bachelor degree programs, master degree programs and Ph.D. degree programs. It mainly focuses on medical degree education with short-term training as supplement. For all degree programs, courses are conducted in English while Chinese is an optional subject. So far, medical education at Dalian Medical University has won accreditation from The World Health Organization (WHO) and has been recognized by Ministry of Health, Education or Medical Council in 45 countries. Up to now, more than 1,100 international students have achieved success by graduating from Dalian Medical University.
