Brief Introduction
Guangzhou Medical University (GMU), formerly known as Guangzhou Medical College, founded in 1958，is a medical institution which offers a full range of programs at undergraduate and graduate levels. GMU has two main campuses. The Yuexiu campus is located in the downtown centre of Guangzhou City, near Liuhua Lake Park and Yuexiu Mountain. The Panyu Campus is a new 247 acre campus, situated in Panyu District of Guangzhou City near Pearl River, an ideal place for learning and research.

Guangzhou Medical University boasts 16 schools: School of Basic Sciences, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Health Management, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, Graduate School, School of International Education, School of Dentistry, Kingmed College of Laboratory Medicine, The School of General Practice and Continuing Education, Health Vocational and Technical College, The First Clinical School, Nanshan School, The Second Clinical School, The Third Clinical School, The Fourth Clinical School.
2. Medical Programs
The clinical medicine discipline of GMU is ranked top 1% in the world for ESI rankings (Essential Science Indicators).GMU boasts 1 state key discipline and 9 state key clinical specialties and considerable provincial disciplines and specialties. Among them, respiratory medicine ranks first place and ranks 5th for thoracic surgery in China.
Guangzhou Medical University aspires to provide quality undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The University offers 19 full-time undergraduate programs: Clinical Medicine, Medical Laboratory, Medical Imaging, Nursing, Anesthesiology, Dentistry, Clinical medicine of integrated TCM and Western Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Pharmacy, Rehabilitation Sciences, Health Administration, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Psychology, Biotechnology, Law, Marketing, Statistics, Information Management& Information System, Food Quality and Safety.
In addition to its quality undergraduate programs, Guangzhou Medical University offers excellent M.Sc. programs and PhD programs. GMU also hosts a postdoctoral research station for clinical medicine. GMU started recruiting international students for the MBBS program (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) in English in 2010. Today, the university has enrolled over 130 international students from India, Nepal, Pakistan, Tanzania, Comoros，Cameroon, Sudan，UK ，Kyrgyz Republic, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Bangladesh. GMU is home to 12,298 full-time students and 21,760 part-time students.
3. Strong Faculty
Guangzhou Medical University places great emphasis on attracting talented faculty from home and abroad to develop the University. GMU boasts a strong faculty led by Prof. Zhong Nanshan, a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering. The faculty is comprised of 94 supervisors for PhD candidates, 774 supervisors for master students.
GMU attaches importance to training professionals with innovation and hands-on skills.
4. Scientific Research and Laboratory
Furthermore, Guangzhou Medical University boasts 20 research institutes(centers), namely, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases, The Sino-French Hoffmann Institute ,Guangzhou Institute of Snake Venom, Institute of Neuroscience, Institute for Chemical Carcinogenesis, Cancer Research Institute, Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, Guangzhou Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Guangzhou Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, Guangzhou Institute of Orthopedics, Urology Institute and Institute of Higher Education. In particular, The Sino-French Hoffmann Institute is a joint project with the 2011 Nobel Laureate Jules Hoffmann. The State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases of GMU is the only state key respiratory lab in China.
5. Affiliated Hospitals
Guangzhou Medical University has 8 directly affiliated hospitals and 12 non-directly affiliated hospitals, which specialise in respiratory diseases, neuropathy, cardiovascular diseases, gynecology and obstetrics, cancer, dental care, rehabilitation, minimally invasive surgery, primary care，etc.

In recent years, a substantial number of experts from prestigious universities abroad are engaged with the University as adjunct professors, distinguished professors and visiting professors.
