University of Heilongjiang is a national university in the city of Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China. Harbin is also known as the “Moscow of the East” and the “Paris of the Orient”. (1) History
The university was established in March 1941, in the base of China's communist revolution, Yan'an. With several names, it was called the Yan'an School of Foreign Languages (Chinese Military and Politics University of the Anti-Japanese invasion) in the early time of the 1940s. After the PLA liberation in 1946, the Foreign Language School moved to Harbin as an academic institution conducted by the HQ of Northeastern Democratic Army (also a group of the PLA). In 1958, the school was extended, and rebuilt as the University of Heilongjiang.
(2) Discipline and programs
Heilongjiang University is a key comprehensive university offering a wide range of disciplines including liberal arts, sciences, foreign languages, engineering, management etc. Heilongjiang University has 33 schools. Within these departments, there are 81 programs offered at the undergraduate level, 199 programs at the master level, and 59 at the doctoral level and 10 at the Post-Doctoral level. There are currently 27117 full-time undergraduates, 5580 full-time graduates, and as many as 757 international students enrolled at Heilongjiang University.

Heilongjiang University has strong teachers, teacher atmosphere, and talent gathered. The existing staff of more than 3,200, of which more than 2,000 full-time teachers, tutor 552 people, of teachers with senior professional titles and more than 900. There are two libraries with more than 5 million copies of book collections. Heilongjiang University has many scientific research platforms at national level, such as National Joint Engineering Research Center and Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education. (4) Great achievements
Since "the Tenth Five Year Plan", Heilongjiang University has won 194 items of the National Social Science Foundation, and 261 items of National Natural Science Fund. There are more than 700 papers were included in SCI, EI, CSSC separately in these years and more than 23000 items of all kinds achievements of scientific research are reached, including more than 900 items getting awards at national, ministerial and provincial level, one item getting National Science and Technology Progress Award, and 17 items getting Chinese Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences Research Excellence Award.
(5) Communication and international cooperation
Since 1980, Heilongjiang University has recruited international bachelor, master and doctoral students from all over the world. Near 10000 international students have studied at Heilongjiang University since 1981. They have come from Japan, South Korea, Russia, America, Great Britain, Germany and many other countries. Heilongjiang University has substantive cooperation and exchanges with 140 colleges worldwide. These include the UK's Leeds University and Bradford University, the University of Illinois, USA, the University of Paris X, France, Hunan University, South Korea and Japan's Niigata University, and so on.
