Hubei Engineering University, originally known as Xiaogan University, a provincial regular multi-disciplinary comprehensive university, was established upon the approval by the Ministry of Education, and so far, 70 years of history. It is located in the downtown of Xiaogan City famous for the birthplace of Dong Yong, a legendary man known for his utmost filial piety, a sub-central city of Wuhan City. (1) History
The history of Hubei Engineering University can be traced back to Third Provincial Teacher-Training School, which was founded in Suizhou Hubei in 1943. In the process of development and evolution, the School changed its name several times before it was finally named Xiaogan University in 2000. In fact, Xiaogan University was an amalgamation of Xiaogan Normal College, Hubei Vocational-Technical Normal College (formerly Xiaogan Branch of Huazhong Agricultural College) and Xiaogan City Construction Engineering School (Southern Urban-Rural Construction School of Ministry of Construction). In December 2011, Xiaogan University was renamed the present name Hubei Engineering University.
(2) Discipline and programs
Hubei Engineering University insists on giving priority to ordinary undergraduate education, actively carrying out multi-level open education such as the postgraduate education and adult vocational education, etc.. After adjusting and expanding some disciplines, it has formed a complete and optimized disciplinary system. At present, it has 17 schools including School of Economics and Management, School of Political Science and Law, School of Education and Psychology, School of Physical Education, School of Literature and Journalism, School of Foreign Languages, School of Music, School of Fine Arts and Design, School of Mathematics and Statistics, School of Physics and Electronic Information Engineering, School of Chemistry and Materials Science, School of Life Science and Technology (Agricultural College), School of Computer and Information Science, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, School of Architecture and School of International Education, which offer 66 undergraduate programs covering 10 disciplines: engineering, science, literature, economics, law, education, agronomy, management, art theory and medicine.

Hubei Engineering University has high quality education resources for talents training, including 10 provincial scientific research platforms, namely, Hubei Key Laboratory of Special Fruits and Vegetables’ Quality and Safety Control, Hubei Key Laboratory of Biomass Resources and Chemical and Environmental Biotechnology, Hubei Key Laboratory of Crop Diseases Monitoring and Security Control; Hubei Small Town Development Research Center and the Chinese Filial Piety Culture Research Center, etc. Meanwhile, it has 1 state-level off-campus education practice base for college students and 4 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, i.e. Electrics and Electronics Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Life Science and Technology Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Basic Computer Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and Chemistry Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center.

Hubei Engineering University is adhering to the opening-up policy in running the schools and carrying on a wide range of international academic exchanges and cooperation. It has established friendly co-operative ties and academic exchange programs with more than 10 international education institutions in the countries such as America, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Australia, etc. It has launched the international cooperative education programs for cultivating three-year and four-year students with foreign universities such as British Anglia Ruskin University, British University of Wolverhampton, etc..
