Jiangsu University of Science and Technology is located in a national historical and cultural city with beautiful scenery - Zhenjiang city, Jiangsu Province. (1) History
Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (JUST) is a university of recognized excellence by the Ministry of Education of China. It has a history dating back to the year of 1933 with Shanghai as its original location. In 1953, the University grew into the first shipbuilding school in P.R. China and was relocated in 1970 to Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province. In 1978 and 1993, the University was upgraded and renamed twice, respectively called as Zhenjiang Shipbuilding Institute and East China Shipbuilding Institute. In 2004, after the incorporation of Jianghai Trade School and Sericulture Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the University under its current name came into existence. JUST is a general institution affiliated to Jiangsu Province and is co-sponsored by Jiangsu Province, China State Shipbuilding Cooperation and China Shipbuilding Industry Cooperation in 2012. JUST is jointly sponsored by Jiangsu Province and State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence in 2016.
(2) Discipline and programs
With its main location in the scenic and historic Zhenjiang city, the University now occupies four purpose-built campuses, which cover more than 2600 acres in total. A new campus covering over 2350 acres is in under construction. JUST currently manages the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs through 14 schools. By far, the University has set up 1 post-doctoral station, 2 doctoral authorization First-Level disciplines, 6 doctoral conferrable programs, 12 master authorization First-Level disciplines, 48 master conferrable programs，5 professional master degree cultivation types and 56 undergraduate programs.
(3) Academic facilities and scientific research
With years of devoted work in education, JUST has developed into a growing place for highly qualified professionals and researchers, possessing extraordinary academic strengths in multiple disciplines. It is widely recognized for its unique and remarkable academic strength in shipbuilding, marine related areas and sericulture study.
In addition to educational training, the University tightly combines fundamental research with technological innovation and High-Tech achievements promotion. It has undertaken many high-level research projects from National High-Tech Research and Development Fund, National Natural Science Fund and National Social Science Fund. Several national, provincial and ministerial-level research bases have already been established on campus.
In the meantime, the University has built up research links and partnerships with leading industry groups such as China State Shipbuilding Corporation and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. It has also established a cooperative development committee involving more than 100 enterprises and academic institutes.
(4) Communication and international cooperation
With the aim to get more globally involved, JUST has launched various scientific and educational cooperative programs with partners from many countries and regions, turning JUST campus into an increasingly diversified community. Cooperation activities range from joint education programs, course articulation programs, course certificate programs, faculty exchange to joint research projects.
In 2012, for the purpose of internationalization, the University started to recruit international students. Other than our academic strength, with the understanding that for many international students, living in China is a completely new experience, we have a dedicated support team that offers ongoing service to all international students. Currently, in addition to English-delivered programs that are specially designed for international students, all existing programs are open to international applicants, the delivering language of which is mandarin Chinese.
