Jingmen is a prefecture-level city in central hubei province, formely known as the “jingchu gateway”. The city is located in the middle and lower reaches of the han river. It is located in the city of xiangyang and the city of xuzhou in the north, and yichang city in the west, xiaogan city in the east, and south respectively with jingzhou city, qianjiang city, tianmen city.
Jingmen is part of jingzhou area in the period of xia-shang dynasty, it belongs to Quan and Ruo in western zhou dynasty. In Spring and Autumn period, dangyang couty was established in the area where now is south of jingmen. In the early tang dynasty, changlin couty was belongs to jingzhou, dangyang was changed to jizhou and set up jingmen couty. In 972 A.D, jingmen army was established. In 1277 A.D, jingmen army was promoted to jingmen mansion. In the first year of the republic, Jingmen county belongs to hubei province. On August 19, 1983, the state council approved jingmen city as a prefecture-level city.
Jingmen city is located in the mid-latitude north subtropical monsoon climate zone, with abundant rainfall, abundant sunshine and long frost-free period, characterized by spring temperature and humidity, hot summer, dry autumn and cold winter. The annual average temperature is 15.6 to 16.3℃, annual average rainfall is 804-1067 mm.
A new train service was introduced from Jingmen to Wuhan in 2004. Jingmen is very close to many great tourist attractions such as Changban Slope of Three Kingdoms fame, the Wudang Mountains, and the Ming Tomb in Zhongxiang (a World Heritage site only an hour away). As it is located in central China, Jingmen is within easy reach of almost anywhere in the country, taking about 18 hours to either Beijing or Guangzhou by train, or two hours by train to Yichang, home of the Gezhouba Dam project and Three Gorges Dam. From here travellers can fly to many destinations.
Jingmen, is China's excellent tourism city, also is the western hubei ecological culture of the important tourism node city, as of August 2013, there are all kinds of tourist attractions in jingmen, more than 200, including 11 national resource point, have three 4A grade scenic spot, two 3A level scenic spots. The main attractions are: The Ming Toms, Zhanghe scenic spot, Pendun village world and so on.
