(1). History
Medical College of China Three Gorges University was established in Hubei in 1949, experienced Wuchang Medical College, Yichang Medical College, Hubei Three Gorges College Medical College, Medical College of China Three Gorges University several development stages. In recent more than 60 years, especially since the merger of China Three Gorges University, Medical Education of China Three Gorges University has been developing rapidly.
(2). Discipline Construction
Medical College of China Three Gorges University sets up 5 undergraduate majors, include clinical medicine, medical imaging, traditional Chinese medicine, nursing and pharmacy. Among those majors, medical imaging is a national characteristic professional and provincial brand professional, clinical medicine is the provincial brand professional. Basic Medical Sciences (first class) and pharmacology, immunology is the key subject of Hubei province. The biological chemistry is a national excellent course, the anatomy and immunology are the provincial excellent courses, the morphology is the provincial teaching team, the school also sets up Provincial experimental demonstration center of Basic Medicine and Clinical skills training center.
In 2003, Medical College of China Three Gorges University began to recruit international students majoring in clinical medicine. It is one of the 48 colleges and universities in China to recruit clinical medicine professional (English teaching) undergraduate students in China.
(3). Campus Overview
As of December 2014, Medical College of China Three Gorges University has educated more than 20000 college students, 500 graduate students, and 660 international students. Now there are 4250 full-time undergraduate students, 219 graduates and 463 international students in the school.
Now there are 2 national level hoase physician training base, 29 provincial hoase physician standardized training base, which is the general practitioner training base in Hubei province. The school has 2 provincial key laboratories- Hubei Province Key Laboratory of tumor micro-environment and immune therapy, and the Chinese Medicine Pharmacology (tumor) scientific research three grade Laboratory of National Institute of traditional Chinese Medicine. It also has 15 research platforms such as tumor research institute, institute of reproduction, institute of cardiovascular diseases, institute of liver diseases and medical laboratory animal center.
(4). Affiliated Hospitals
Seven hospitals directly affiliated to Medical College of China Three Gorges University including Yichang central Hospital, Renhe Hospital and Gezhouba Hospital, etc. have been set up for students practicing. These affiliated hospitals enjoy high reputation in the central country. Students can have good practice and internships here and receive enough exercises to be qualified as a doctor in the future.
Training objective of Medical College of China Three Gorges University is to develop "high quality, strong ability, applied" medical professionals. The school has set up more than 30 clinical teaching bases, established Medical Education Cooperation Committee of China Three Gorges University by 12 first-level A hospitals of Hubei. These hospitals and professional bases fulfill their functions and perform their duties in clinical treatment, research, teaching, and courses of study.
(5). Significant Achievements
In recent years, Medical College of Three Gorges University has hosted and undertook more than 50 scientific research projects such as project of National Natural Science Foundation of China, major projects of Ministry of Science and Technology, etc. The college has won 7 scientific and technological progress second prizes of Hubei province and 15 third prizes. More than 200 scientific research papers were included by SCI, nearly 200 patents were authorized.
