Brief Introduction
Medical College of Soochow University established in 1957. As one of the earliest founded medical colleges and universities in China, Medical College of Soochow University is one of the first universities to obtain the right to grant doctoral degree, a key university in Jiangsu Province. It is located in Suzhou, in the east of China, near Shanghai, and honored as a “Paradise on the Earth”. Around the campuses are some of the renowned universities and institutions, such as Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University and University of Science and Technology of Suzhou.
(1). History
The predecessor of Medical College of Soochow University is private Nantong Medical School which was founded in 1912. In 1956, it renamed Nantong Medical College. After moved to Suzhou in 1957, it renamed Suzhou Medical College, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of nuclear industry. In 2000, Suzhou Medical College merged into Suzhou University, then established Medical College of Suzhou University. The medical department of Suzhou University was established in 2008.

There are 3 provincial laboratory teaching demonstration center, 17 affiliated hospitals (including 3 directly affiliated hospitals), more than 100 teaching and practice points; 18 biology class practice base.

Medical College of Soochow University now is made up of College of basic medicine and Biological Sciences, College of Radiological Medicine and protection, Public Health College, Pharmacy College, nursing College and 3 clinical medical school. More than 3000 graduate students, 4800 undergraduate students, 400 foreign students are studying at Medical College of Soochow University.
Now it has 3 engineering center and innovation team of Ministry of education, 6 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, 1 provincial science and technology public service platform, 2 outstanding scientific and technological innovation team of Colleges and Universities in Jiangsu Province, 10 Municipal Key Laboratory, 3 municipal science and technology public service platform, 4 scientific research innovation team of school level, 24 scientific research institutions of school level.
(4). Affiliated Hospitals
Medical College of Soochow University has 17 affiliated hospitals for students practicing, among those 3 directly affiliated to the university. These affiliated hospitals equipped with advanced medical facilities, enjoy high reputation and provide good practice and internships for students. Students can receive enough exercises to be qualified as a doctor in the future.
(5). Significant Achievements
In addition to the “hardware” construction, Medical College of Soochow University has been focusing on both basic and applied research, ranking in top one of the province-owned academic institutions in the grant harvest from the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and featuring several recognized special areas such as dermatology and venereal diseases, which is now the National Key Discipline with several significant achievements in Genome-wide Association Study (GWAS) of psoriasis and other dermal lesions. Pharmacology shares one of the main research areas and involves the screening and characterization of efficacious compounds from Traditional Chinese Medical Herbs. This subject was the first one to be granted independent doctorial degree award in the province. Other disciplines including epidemiology, infectious diseases (microbiology and parasitological), aging and regenerative research, maternal and child care, gastroenterology, neurology and psychology, gynecology and obstetrics, and organ transplantations, etc. are also responsible for fostering the new generation of scientists and further training of staff and recognized as well for their talents and overwhelming achievements in the state.
(6). Communication and Cooperation
Medical College of Soochow University has actively carried out international academic exchanges and cooperation with the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Singapore and other countries and regions such as Hongkong, Taiwan and other regions, the establishment of a wide range of exchanges and long-term cooperation.
