Brief Introduction
Zhejiang University of Media and Communications (ZUMC) is one of the two leading universities in China specialing in cultivating professionals, talents and other specialists for the broadcast industry and other industries in media and communications.
1. History
Zhejiang University of Media and Communications is a national university in China. It was formerly known as the Zhejiang Higher Vocational Training School of Radio & Television which was affiliated with The State Administration of Radio Film and Television. In May 2004, with the approval of The Ministry of Education, the School was upgraded to a university and changed its name to the present Zhejiang University of Media and Communications. In October 2011, The Ministry of Education granted the University the right to confer master's degrees in Journalism and Media Communications. Today, more than 10,000 full-time students are currently studying in over 50 programs at the 13 Colleges and Schools of Zhejiang University of Media and Communications.
2. Overview of Campus
Zhejiang University of Media and Communications has two campuses: Xiasha Campus and Tongxiang Campus. One of the campuses was granted to locate in the Higher Education Zone, Xiasha, Hangzhou Economic & Technological Development Area, covering a total area of 52 hectares with a floor space of 450,000 square meters, and another one in Tongxiang, covering over 33 hectares with a floor space of 160,000 square meters. It consists of 13 self-governing Schools and Colleges, 3 Departments and 7 other research Institutes above China's provincial level.
3. Excellent Faculty
The University employs 97 professors, 260 associate professors, 24 foreign experts and teachers from major English speaking countries and 704 teaching and administrative staff who carry, support and work for the daily teaching and running of the entire school.
4. Great Educational Infrastructure
Zhejiang University of Media and Communications is well-equipped with advanced teaching and experimental facilities that guarantee the students a professional, efficient and people-friendly learning environment. The total value of educational instruments and facilities has reached 180 million CNY. The 22-storey multi-functional Media Tower that houses 17 broadcasting studios of various sizes has been a production base for broadcasting radio and television programs, teaching/research activities and social services.

For nearly 40 years, Zhejiang University of Media and Communications has provided central and local broadcast and media industries with a myriad of specialized talents. Through years of unremitting efforts, by the strong and professional teaching staff, high quality teaching and research and well-equipped facilities, Zhejiang University of Media and Communications graduates are well received by the industry and society in general, and our graduate employment rates remain above 93% annually.
6. International Communication and Cooperation
The aim of the University is to cultivate the media and broadcast talents of its students. Zhejiang University of Media and Communications has actively set up an effective mechanism of cooperation and partnership. In recent years, international cooperation has made the University a particularly well known Chinese higher education institution in the broadcast industry to our overseas partners. Zhejiang University of Media and Communications has partners in the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Sweden, South Korea, France, Germany, Italy and other areas and countries. In 2011, with the approval of Hanban (The Confucius Institute Headquarters), Zhejiang University of Media and Communications established its first Confucius Institute in Northern Ireland in partnership with The University of Ulster.
