The First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, founded in 1949, has developed into a large comprehensive hospital with medical treatment, teaching and research from a small hospital with 230 beds, and 395 employees after 60 years of development.
 
The First Affiliated Hospital is the largest medical center in Heilongjiang Province with complete medical specialty and advanced technology. The hospital has set up out-patient department, inpatient department, emergency center and remote consultation center. There are 93 clinical departments, 54 medico-technical departments, 5111 staff and 4398 open beds. In 2012, emergency reached 1,988,000 people and hospital surgery surpassed 72,500 cases. The hospital also undertakes the task of health care, diagnosis and treatment for the deputy provincial level leaders and important foreign guests.
 
In 1992, the First Affiliated Hospital was appraised as "three-level" Hospital; in 1998, the hospital won the national "Pokka Hospital"; in 2010, it passed the recheck of "three-level" again with the provincial highest score. The hospital has established cooperation with more than 90 hospitals inside and outside the province. The medical treatment has affected neighboring countries and regions.
