Harbin University of Commerce, founded in 1952, is the first multidisciplinary university of commerce in China, and one of the ten key provincial universities sponsored by both the Central and Local Governments. Harbin University of Commerce aims at education and research. HUC has been awarded with Excellent Results during the Assessment of Undergraduate Instruction in Colleges and Universities sponsored by the Ministry of Education in 2006. In 2012, HUC was selected to be a part of the “National Project for building fundamental capabilities in the Higher Education Institution of the Central and West Regions”; in 2013, HUC became a member of Sino-Russian Alliance of the Universities of Economic Disciplines; in 2014, HUC was awarded the fourth year “National Civilized Unit” title.

Established in 1952, Harbin University of Commerce was the first multidisciplinary university of commerce in China. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, Harbin University of Commerce started undergraduate education programs in 1958 and postgraduate in 1982, and now becomes one of the ten universities entitled for construction priorities in Heilongjiang Province. Harbin University of Commerce achieved Excellence during the Assessment of Undergraduate Instruction in Colleges and Universities sponsored by the Ministry of Education in 2006.

In recent 5 years, Harbin Commerce University has undertaken the 812 government sponsored projects and 179 non-government sponsored projects, including National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Philosophy and Social Science Fund Project, the National Science and Technology Support Program, and the Ministry of Education Projects, etc. The University has 351 Patents for Invention and Utility Model Patents, with 95 authorized items. Scientific research has won 163 Provincial and Ministerial Awards. 361 books and 7617 papers are being published, among which 1863 paper are indexed by SCI, EI, and ISTP. 3 kinds of academic journals business studies, Journal of Harbin University of Commerce (NATURAL SCIENCE EDITION), Journal of Harbin University of Commerce (SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION) are edited and published, among which business studies, is indexed by CSSCI, and is excellent academic journal with international influence in China, Journal of Harbin University of Commerce (SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION) is among top 100 journals of Social Sciences in National Universities.
(5) Communication and international cooperation
Harbin University of Commerce gives great level of importance to international exchanges and cooperation, and has established educational cooperation and academic exchange with 65 institutions in 28 countries and regions. Harbin University of Commerce, together with the 5 country-members of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, has founded the Journal “North-East Asia Academic Forum”, with total 13 Universities-participants. Furthermore, joint training programs of undergraduate and graduate students are carried out with University of Leeds, Edinburgh Napier University. Exchange programs for undergraduates are carried out with Russia Plekhanov Economic University, Khabarovsk School of economics and law, the US Central University of Arkansas, Tokyo Marine University, South Korea Hunan University, Kazakhstan Eurasia Innovation University, and Holland Anglo-Dutch University, etc. More than 300 government officials, business executives and teachers from a total of 73 countries and regions, including Asia, Africa, South America and the Caribbean, South Pacific and the Commonwealth of Independent States come to the university to study and training. A number of scientific research cooperation is carried out with other Universities, including Novosibirsk State University of Technology and the Pacific National Economic University in Russia, RMIT University in Australia, Purdue University in USA, Tokyo Marine University in Japan, Youngsan University in South Korea.
