Answer: The program is fully English medium program.
2. I have studied some foundational MBBS courses for one year in another university. Could I transfer from the current institution to your school?
Answer: Sorry, Tongji University School of Medicine doesn’t take into consideration the intercollegiate transfer of any international student. Due to the current policy of the university, any transfer students must start over by re-applying for entry into MBBS program. The transfer of the previous university credits will not be encouraged.
3. How is the living standard in Shanghai city? What about the canteen in the University?
Answer: The living standard here is superior, for example, minimum 200 USD per month for food & intra-city transportation Cost. There is special canteen for international students and a Muslim canteen available for Muslim students only.
4. Is there separate hostel facility for girls?
Answer: Yes, our dorm building operates like a hotel. We have several dorm buildings. Each dorm room has its own washing room and good air-conditioner. There is often a public kitchen for fast-cooking and a dry room for cleaning and washing on the first floor of each dorm building.
5. How can I exchange some Chinese currency for my pocket money when I just arrived in China?
Students can exchange some Chinese currency in bank for shuttle/bus ticket fare and pocket money in Shanghai Airport when they arrive in China. And students can buy telephone card from business counter in the airport to give international call and domestic call if students need.
6. Can a student open a Bank Account?
Answer: Yes, a student could open a bank account in his name to keep his surplus money safe. He could also use this account to have his family remit any additional money as required.
7. Can you provide airport pick up from the local airport to the Campus?
Answer: Sure, we can provide free airport pick up service for the students in group from local airport - Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport to campus. But students should send detailed departure schedule to our college’s representative minimum 3 days in advance so that we can pick up without any delay. For individual international students, whether airport pick up service is available, please inquire by email or telephone us in advance. If not, international students can get to the campus by taxi
8. Is University providing all books for studies? Please provide the cost of books for first year and also for other years.
Answer: Students need to buy the text and exercise books by themselves. On campus there are lots of bookstores that offer discount for selling. Some text books might be imported from foreign countries with a relatively high price.
9. While making registration, can I pay the money in cash? If in cash then can I pay it in U.S Dollars currency?
Answer: Paying the tuition fees is part of the registration process, it can be done in cash in the form of Chinese Yuan Renminbi, but since the largest note in China is 100 Yuan, you will have to carry a lot of notes to pay, this can be unsecured and difficult. It is recommended that you open a Chinese current bank account and have the money deposited there, then pay by Chinese debit card. The finance office only accepts Chinese Yuan Renminbi.
10. Regarding payment of the tuition fees. If not in cash can I pay using Credit Card/ Debit Card / ATM Card?
Answer: Tuition fee payment can be made in cash or using a Chinese debit card, it is very simple and recommended to open a Chinese bank account once you arrive in China.
11. How are the transportation, telecom and internet in Shanghai City?
Answer: there are 2 airports, 3 train stations, 13 metro lines and many buses to most cities in China and many foreign cities. There are convenient public facilities for telecom and internet, you can buy telecom card to call in any time. There is internet access in international students’ dormitories and they just need to pay the fees according to their use. There are also lots of internet pubs for going on internet.
12. How is the climate in Shanghai City?
Answer: Shanghai has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons: pleasant spring, hot rainy summer, comfortable cool autumn and cold winter. Annual average temperature is 16.1 °C (61.0 °F). Rainy days reach 120 days of the year because of its location at the estuary of the Yangtze River to the East China Sea.
13. How is China’s medical education ranking in the world?
Answer: China’s medical education ranks 4th worldwide and continues improving.
14. Is learning Chinese language compulsory?
Answer: Even though the program is taught in English, but international students must study Chinese language according to Ministry of Education, China. International students are required to pass the basic Chinese language level. Students need practice with Chinese patients since clinical classes are taken in hospital. So international students need to know basic Chinese language.
Besides, it will be helpful for students in daily life if they learn some Chinese language.
