Shantou University Medical College has a total of 10 affiliated hospitals and 10 teaching hospitals across Guangdong Province. Shantou University Medical College First Affiliated Hospital
The First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College was founded in 1989. It has attained the highest level in China’s hospital rating system (level 3A), and is ranked in the Top 100 of “Best Chinese Hospitals”.
The First Affiliated Hospital is a modern, comprehensive hospital with widely recognized strengths and expertise in such fields as cardiology, internal medicine, rheumatism, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedics, hematology, and molecular imaging. The department of cardiology has been designated as a “Key Medical Specialty” by the province of Guangdong, as the only such key specialty outside the provincial capital Guangzhou. Additionally, The First Affiliated Hospital has been selected as one of 65 Education Centers of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) in China and the only one in eastern Guangdong.
The First Affiliated Hospital currently has 2,070 employees and 1,650 patient beds. It comprises 56 clinical departments, 11 technical departments, 12 teaching departments and 6 laboratories. There are extensive teaching facilities for our students including classrooms, demonstration rooms, clinical skills training rooms, libraries, electronic reading rooms, and multimedia classrooms, as well as student accommodation.
With the support of the Li Ka Shing Foundation, the First Affiliated Hospital has developed into a top-notch hospital with outstanding healthcare professionals and state-of-the-art facilities, integrating excellent clinical care with education and research. Following these successful developments, the First Affiliated Hospital has been designated a “National Advanced Healthcare Unit”, and has been granted the “Hospital Reform and Innovation Award” by the Ministry of Health for three consecutive years from 2010 to 2012 and several other national awards.
Shantou University Medical College Second Affiliated Hospital
The Second Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College is a general hospital with the highest ranking (level 3A) in the Chinese national hospital rating system. It was one of the first hospitals in China ever to acquire internationally-recognized certifications on quality management and environment management. The Second Affiliated Hospital is renowned for its surgery specialties such as orthopedic surgery, (micro) neurological surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, urology and colorectal surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery and general surgery. As a key comprehensive hospital in the region, the Second Affiliated Hospital also boasts expert clinicians in such fields as cardiovascular diseases, pulmonology, infectious diseases, nephrology, otolaryngology (ENT), stomatology, endocrinology, rheumatism, pediatrics, and gynecology & obstetrics. The Second Affiliated Hospital currently has over 1,300 employees, 1,500 hospital beds available for patients, 33 clinical departments, 14 medical technical units, an intensive care unit (ICU), and a cardiac care unit (CCU). There are extensive teaching facilities for our undergraduate and graduate students and residents. The new building of the Second Affiliated Hospital has been completed, where new outpatient and emergency departments, medical technical units, 640 hospital beds and other facilities are currently underway.
