Medical Overseas Students at Shantou University Medical College, China

With approval of the Ministry of Education of China, Shantou University Medical College (SUMC) launched an international MBBS program in 2010. The program is a five-year innovative program specially tailored to international students who have a general interest in China and have the ambition to become an outstanding international clinician capable of practicing medicine in different countries around the world. 

Shantou University Medical College encourages international students to form their own organizations and to participate in various campus activities, providing facilities, equipment and financial supports. Shantou University Medical College sees the value of engaging student into cultural activities, thus sponsoring The Campus Art and Culture Festival and The English Science and Technology Festival every year. Shantou University Medical College also invites distinguished scholars and experts to deliver talks on a variety of topics, e.g. literature, art, and interpersonal communications. The lecture series of “Scholar Forum”, “Doctor’s Forum” and “SUMC Appointments” have broadened students’ horizons. Shantou University Medical College encourages international students to participate in field medical practice activities, organizing such events as volunteer medical services, blood donations, surveys in factories, countryside and hospitals. These activities have become the brand name projects. Student sport clubs organize extramural activities of basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, chess, etc. They also hold sport photography exhibitions and encourage students to participate in the college-wide track and field competitions. 

 
Shantou University Medical College is highly active in international academic exchanges and scientific research collaborations. The college has established intercollegiate relationships with many renowned overseas medical institutions, including those in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, The Netherlands, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. Additionally, the college has established long-term cooperative ties with the World Health Organization in the field of infectious diseases.
