1. History
With its origin traced back to Hubei Provincial Medical College in 1943, Wuhan University School of Medicine changed its name to Hubei Medical College and Hubei Medical University in 1993, and was finally renamed Wuhan University School of Medicine (WUSM) in 2000. Seventy years of inheriting and developing has brought forward remarkable achievements.
2. Overview of School of Medicine
Under Wuhan University School of Medicine, there are nine subordinate schools and centers: School of Basic Medical Science, First School of Clinical Medicine, Second School of Clinical Medicine, School of Stomatology, School of Pharmacy, School of Public Health, HOPE Nursing School, A3 Laboratory and Animal Experiment Center, Vocational and Technical College; 3 directly affiliated hospitals: Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan University Hospital of Stomatology; and 11 non-directly affiliated hospitals. 5. Scientific Research
In the last two decades, Wuhan University School of Medicine has successfully applicated for nearly 1700 national, provincial scientific research projects; made over 450 significant scientific and technological achievements; and cultivated over 360 national, provincial, and municipal prize-winning scientific and technological fruitful results. Among them, there are one First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award (year 2006), five Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award (year 2011, 2004, 2009, 2011, 2012), one Second Prize of National Technology Invention Award (year 2000), and three Third Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award (year 1997, 1999, 2000). Wuhan University School of Medicine also published eight medical journals.
6. Medical Laboratory Center and Animal Experiment Center
Wuhan University School of Medicine has first-class Animal Experiment Center, Medical Structural Biology Research Center, Anatomy Teaching and Laboratory Building, and Stomatology Medical Laboratory Center. Animal Experiment Center is of 4300 square meters. Its two major functions are animal production and animal experiment. The biggest and most full-function big animal laboratory in the country-A3 Animal Laboratory is in the Center.
Medical Structural Biology Research Center is multi-functional. It can be used for basic medical science research, application research, research and development, as well as science and technology services. Medical Molecular Biology Research Laboratory, Medical Immunology Research Laboratory, Brain Science Research Laboratory, and Structural Biology Research Laboratory are located there.

7. Affiliated Hospitals
Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University (renamed Hubei Province Renmin Hospital in 1987), Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University and Wuhan University Hospital of Stomatology are all National Level-A Hospitals, Baby-friendly Hospitals, as well as National Top Hundred Hospitals. The three hospitals have a total number of over 5000 beds. Renmin Hospital and Zhongnan Hospital are clinical medicine education hospitals, as well as the medical centers of Hubei Province and the mid-southern China.
International Communication and Cooperation
International Education Cooperation
International education cooperation is greatly highlighted. Wuhan University co-founded HOPE Nursing School with the World Health Foundation, and invited world-renowned Nursing expert Dr. Marcia as the Dean. In 2008, Dr. Marcia was rewarded International Friendship Medal by the Chinese government; established by WUHSC and French University of Lorraine, Sino-French Seven-year Medical Pilot Class has already sent 84 students to study in France; with the co-effort from WUHSC and The University of Chicago, Clinical Medicine Education Reform Pilot Class is opened, and has sent 27 students to Georgia, U.S. for Ph.D studies. Meanwhile, 30-40 overseas students from famous universities in the U.S., France, Germany, Japan, and other countries are admitted to study here every year.
