Medical Overseas Students at West China Medical Center of Sichuan University
West China Medical Center of Sichuan University attaches great importance to international education. The Center consists of five colleges, namely, West China College of Basic and Forensic Medicine, West China School of Medicine, West China School of Stomatology, West China School of Public Health, West China School of Pharmacy. Among them, West China School of Medicine of Sichuan University has been authorized by the Ministry of Education, P.R China to enroll international students for the English-medium MBBS. There are only 34 out of 150 medical schools in China who have got this authorization since 2010. West China School of Stomatology also has Bachelor of Stomatology program in English for international students.
West China School of Medicine is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools published by WHO and the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) published by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECMFG) and the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER). The graduates of MBBS program are eligible to take the Medical Licensing Examinations held by the medical councils in different countries.
Since its beginning the MBBS Program has enrolled more than 700 medical students from more than 20 countries such as Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Singapore, USA, Canada, Korea, Fiji, Cameroon etc. Almost all the MBBS graduates have excelled in the medical council licensing examinations in their respective countries and have been employed in reputed government or private hospitals in their home countries.
West China School of Stomatology, was founded in 1917, which was the origin of modern dental education in China. High-level and long-academic teaching manners have become the major part of its dental education. More than 4000 qualified dentists, including approximately a hundred international students, graduated from the school and were awarded master or doctoral degrees.
With more than 100 established partnerships with universities worldwide, West China Medical Center of Sichuan University places a high value on international cooperation. The Center’s global engagements have been increasing rapidly in recent years. One of the Center’s goals is to facilitate an international education experience for all SCU students, whether via setting up students exchange programs, study abroad programs and summer programs with international partner universities or creating inter-cultural exchanges opportunities and experiences on campus.
Focusing on the aim of constructing a first-class comprehensive research university, the Center fully utilizes the advantages of various disciplines in a comprehensive university, promotes interdisciplinary development of arts, science, engineering and medical sciences, and plays a crucial role in the fields of medical education, discipline development, scientific research, health services and international exchanges, etc.
